Poetry is awesome!

Tonight is quite odd, because I have such a wide array of emotions at play. The result of such emotion usually takes one of two forms: cleaning or creativity.

Sorry, Mom... tonight it's creativity. I'll try to get my desk drawers cleaned out this weekend. :P

So, I challenged my on-the-spot rhyming tonight with some "poetry" over IMs to my friend. Fun stuff!

"My room is messy and my hair is curly and my skin has goosebumps because I'm cold
Emotion is raw and music is loud, but it's the same damn scene and it's getting old
There's such a stark contrast between black and white, but those are the shades that I see tonight
So while I watch and wait I have a feeling of impromptu
To just express everything going on, all to you."

I don't know why I enjoy this so much. It isn't very fluid. I shared it with my awesome friend Amy, who, in return, shared a few of her poems with me. My favorite is called Lame Jokes ... my favorite part:

"I laugh at your jokes

And realize that my voice

Is

Five

Octaves

Higher

Than usual."

In conclusion, weird moods make even weirder blog posts. Goodnight. :)

Random thought...

Parents, don't name your kid Christian.

If they turn out to be atheist, they might get mad at you.

Jodie isn't that reliable

A few days ago I asked my friend for some money so I could get a Pepsi from the school vending machine. He says okay, and I got a Pepsi, and it was promptly taken away by a teacher before I got to drink even half of it. Whatever.

Anyway, I said I'd pay him back but I didn't have the money on me ... and then I forgot, for the last three days in a row.

Uuurgh.

It makes me feel bad. 3-day weekend that I won't be able to pay him back, or even get a Pepsi for myself during lunch so it won't be taken away.

I think it's time for me to put my money in my bag now, heh heh.

My Mom is Awesome

Mom and I may have conflicts once in a while, but I'm finding that I'm in a really good place with her lately. We seem to be establishing grounds about what I can say to her and what not to say, and she's starting to learn what makes me tick. So, the communication value is really upped.

Plus she's doing nice things for me soon, like making me a bookmark and taking me to get a coat and photoshooting me. :D

And I asked her to make me a quilt earlier today... she said that'd be cool, but she wasn't sure if she'd be able to for a while until she gets her concentration in gear. This makes me think of graduation present-stuff. Jeanne got a car, Ju got a laptop... if I got a quilt, that'd be really lovely and meaningful.

I don't know what made me think of ranting about my mom's radness. Oh well. Thank you, Mom. :)

Procrastinating on Science!

A conversation in the hall today between myself and my best friend:

"HEY, JODIE! WHAT ARE YOU DOING THIS EVENING?"
"I'M GOING TO THE ORANGE COUCH IMPROV SHOW!"
"REALLY? ME TOO! ISN'T IT GREAT THAT IT'S ONLY ONE DOLLAR TO GET IN?"
"YEAH, AND IT'S CONVENIENTLY LOCATED IN THE COMMONS! DO YOU KNOW WHEN IT STARTS?"
"7:00, AND THE DOORS OPEN AT 6:30!"
"GREAT! I'LL BE SURE TO BE THERE. DID YOU HEAR THAT YOU CAN WEAR A COSTUME THERE AND HAVE HALLOWEEN SPIRIT?"
"YES, I DID! AND WE HAVE A GUEST MC TONIGHT. I'M EXCITED!"
"ME TOO! I'LL SEE YOU THERE!"
"SEE YA!"

We were pretty much screaming it at each other. Oh, advertising is great. :D

Yep, the Orange Couch Improv Show is tonight, and I'm looking all bruised and bloodied and mangled and otherwise spectacular as a severely distressed not-chosen prom queen. Pictures soon, hopefully.

Uh. I've got to work on my balloon racer now.

3 days and I'm done!

Yes, yes, you did not misread -- I finished my bag!

After many hours of contemplation and a few more of actual work, I've finally finished the crocheted bag that I've been hoping to make for a while.

Here's an overview of the bag. The strap is pretty long and will stretch farther the more I use it, so I've made a mental note to shorten it next time I make a bag.

Detail shot! I stitched the bag in double crochet and used two colors, as you can see here.

I'm so proud of myself!

An Update, After Forever

Hey, everyone! Sorry I haven't kept my blog up to date. Much has been going on recently, including the end of the school year (the second-to-last day was filled with 5 finals, ouch), a photo shoot, and a week-long trip to Washington, D.C. and New York City.

I was up until 2:30 last night after about 6 hours on airplanes to get home, so I'm pretty tired with a cold to boot. Sad stuff.

Before I left for D.C., I made three hemp creations: two bracelets and an anklet.

The first bracelet was for my friend Veronica, whose birthday was in May. I made it using a kit. She liked it a lot, which made me feel good. Yay!

The second bracelet was made from another kit that Julie (my sister) gave me. I'd previously tried to make a necklace from the same kit, but it didn't turn out well. Fortunately, this bracelet did. That's my hand, if you were wondering.

Last but not least, my anklet. I couldn't go to sleep one night near the end of the school, so I stayed up another couple hours to do this. I'm very pleased with it, it's pretty!

I have a few other things in the works to make. The scarf for my friend Kelsie is on a hiatus at the moment due to the annoying fun fur. The project will probably be back in the works later this summer.

I started crocheting a new project, a stripey tote bag, a few hours ago. I've never made anything other than a scarf with crochet, and I've never been instructed on how to go about making a tote bag, but how can I possibly learn without trying? It's coming along really nicely right now.

I've also been considering graduating from hemp kits and taking a gander into the world of -- GASP -- designing my own. I've got all the materials I need, now if I just collect my confidence I'll give it a shot.

Now it's summertime and I have a lot of free time on my hands, so I'll be using it to make some "Waffle"-worthy work. More blog updates to come!

May 11th - 13th: Picture, paragraphs, and poem, respectively

Here are some things I've been doing for the last few days.

-----

May 11th, 2007--
I go on a website called Gaia Online. On it, there are little characters called avatars that you can dress up. I was browsing the forums on Gaia when I found the avatar of The Shadow Exploded. She had a request to everyone to draw pictures of her avatar, so that's what I did.

I only sent The Shadow Exploded her picture today. We'll see how she likes it! :D

In case you're curious... my avatar's name is Outrageous Potato!

May 12th, 2007--
I was talking to Dad about how I wish the writing assignments at school were more substantial. The kind of writing I'm doing in English is more book reports instead of essays -- understandable, and important to learn, but not something I enjoy quite so much. So, he challenged me to write two paragraphs on anything to do with "shade under a tree". Here's what I came up with:

They say that the grass is always greener on the other side of the hill. For me, it is the other side of the yard where the grass is green. While the hot sun beats down harshly on me, the grass on the other side of the yard is bathing in glorious warmth, protected in the dappled shade provided by the trees overhead. Their fresh, green color puts my dry yellow to shame. The green grass stays soft and youthful while I get pounded on by pinecones and invaded by dandelions. Jealousy, in my case, is an underestimation.

People sometimes look at themselves, dissatisfied. "Why haven't I yet grown into my nose?" they might wonder, or perhaps they think, "I ought to clip my nails." I often feel dissatisfied, but my musics are different than a human's. "When will I grow out of my babyish, green color?" or, "I wish it weren't so chilly under this tree," are my thoughts instead. Life as grass under a tree is like being trapped in eternal (and boring) youth. While I sit apathetically, the more aged grass across the lawn is being visited by the friendly dandelions. Why was i dealt the card of such an uneventful life?

May 13th, 2007 --
Tomorrow is my good friend Metal's birthday. He'll be 17. We celebrated today because I may or may not be online tomorrow.

Metal plays on Gaia, too, and so for his birthday I gave him 6 presents. Five were simple items for his avatar. The sixth was a poem, explaining the presents to him. Here's the poem:

Daffodils for chivalry,
Because you're never mean.
Head fins for goofiness,
also because they're green.
Tie of Spades so all you have
is good luck in your life,
Happy face to remind you
to live with little strife.
Finally, last but not least,
One more little thing,
So to show you that I care,
A shiny promise ring.
Your friendship means a lot to me,
Therefore, this little token,
If we were to grow apart,
My soul would surely be broken.
You're seventeen, let's raise the glass,
Sound the horn and cheer,
Your hopes and dreams are surely close,
So have a splendid year!

He was happy, and I was happy that he was happy.

Life is good!

Waffle, waffle, waffle

Waffle, in other words, a bunch of babble. That's what my blog is primarily for -- my babble, my drawing, my crafts, my writing.

I should introduce myself! As of today, May 13 2007, my name is Jodie D. I'm age 13, and I have a few weeks left of 8th grade. I play flute in Band and Orchestra, and I'm planning on trying out for the High School Wind Ensemble.

Flute is not my main passion, though it's a great hobby. I love writing. Nonfiction, mainly, like essays and reports. Poetry is a lot of fun as well. A lot of what you will see on A Lotta Waffle is writing, but you'll also see pictures I draw, crafts I do... whatever else.

My mom was my main inspiration to make this blog, so I should talk about her a bit. She has a blog here called Studio Window. She updates daily with new pictures (she loves photography) and stitching/finishing updates (which she loves too).

So, be prepared for some serious wafflage. Thanks for visiting! :D
